Two weeks ago, I was fortunate enough to be welcomed back by the McClure's to spend time at their family cabins in Waupaca, Wisconsin on the Chain O' Lakes.
I came up in the afternoon and when I arrived I found that nobody was around. Knowing they'd probably be back soon enough, I unpacked in the Codicil and found some provisions to tie me over.
Once they came back, I got a big welcoming hug from Christine, we packed a bag for 'refreshments' and we got the boats in the water and paddled off. Christine and I took the kayaks and Maggie and Hannah were in the canoe. Hannah had never kayaked before so we figured it was a bit more comfortable this way. We went down the small chain and maybe halfway through it started to rain. We were going to stop and wait under a bridge that we pass under, but there was a couple that had already decided to do that so, we set off and decided to keep going through the rain. We finally got to Marl Lake, or 'Green Lake' as we call it, because the water is literally this color:
Not blue, not green, not exactly teal, but it's friggen gorgeous.
It was a bit too cloudy to take a photo of the water, but we stayed for about forty-five minutes and had some super good laughs. I came up with nicknames for all of us.
(Maggie-Magyver, Hannah-Just the Tip, Christine-Green Grapes, and I was Eagle 2)
We dem boys
As it began to get a bit dark out, we headed back. We saw a couple turtles, Christine didn't tip over this time(!), and we drank all that we brought.
When we got back to land, Shiela and Don & Ruth had arrived. We went back to the Codicil to chat while dinner was cooking. There was BBQ'd ribs, baked potatoes, corn on the cob, and a nice salad. It was delicious! After dinner we went back to the Codicil to play a few games, we had hoped to play 'True American' for our first attempt at it, but we ended up playing a(n) (oddly interesting) card game and as we grew tired we all fell asleep where we landed.
The next morning we had scrambled eggs with bacon, a staple for every breakfast.
As we were about to go on a journey to Tom Thumb to play some mini golf, we decided to go on a boat ride with everyone instead.
Billie to the right in her adorable Nemo life vest
Rick had brought a slush with him for us to share, it was a bit boozy, but not too bad. We pulled into a smaller bay so we could jump in and swim around a bit, but only a few of us decided to have a go at it. A little bit further down the chain we parked the boat and we all jumped out and swam a bit. Billie even took well to the water, and everyone around us loved her.
This was definitely the day I had the most sun exposure. As you can tell...
It was a good time had by all.
Once we got back, we hung out for a bit, drank a few 'Lemony Snickets' and decided to go on our journey to Tom Thumb. Hannah decided that she wanted to try her hand at kayaking, and she loved it. We played a round, I lost, and we headed back because we wanted ice-cream.
We decided to take the canoe to Scoopers for ice cream, instead of driving or walking (which would've probably been a bit smarter since we almost got run over by a few boats, not my fault).
I got Birthday Cake, and Cookies and Cream, and it was delicious. They're definitely generous with their scoops.
After our refreshment, we were homeward bound.
A few less boats threatening to plow us over on our way back, it was a peaceful trip.
When we parked the canoe back on the bank, I had to sadly pack up and go back home.
I quickly said my good-byes, wrote a quick thank you to the McClures for letting me stay and I was on my way. Hoping I could stay one more day (and I should have), I can't wait till next time!
Knit one, Purl two, Chief Waupaca, Woo-Woo!
Hope everyone is having a great end of their summers, and enjoying it while you can!
Only about a week left for myself until my Senior Year of college.
Woah baby.
xoxo
