My Summer Reads | Summer 2016

Hey Everybody!

This summer, I made a very simple goal to myself to read at least two books. I know, not super hard, but when you're someone like me and forget about something unless it's right in front of you, it can be a bit of a difficulty.

So, this summer I read a total of 9 books. I'd say I blew my goal out of the water.
Now, I'm not gonna lie, 8 of the 9 were me just re-reading the Harry Potter books.
I went through the entire series from start to finish again.
Y'know:
1. Sorcerer's Stone,
2. Chamber of Secrets,
3. Prisoner of Azkaban,
4. Goblet of Fire,
5. Order of the Phoenix,
6. Half-Blood Prince,
and 7. Deathly Hallows.
8. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
And once J.K. Rowling released the fantastic book version of the play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child I ran my butt to Target and picked up the absolute last copy at my local store. That night I started reading and as I was half way through, I already had nostalgic tears in my eyes. I finished it the next morning feeling absolutely loved it. Did I feel like I wanted more? Absolutely. And y'know what? Momma's gonna get her whatever Jo puts out that is Harry Potter related.
I've already lent out the book twice, so if anybody wants needs to borrow it, hit me up!

I've also decided to dabble in the world of audio books and signed myself up for Audible. I got my 2 free audiobooks when I signed up, and I was hooked. Whenever I mowed the lawn, I listened to my audiobooks. When I was painting, I listened to my audiobooks.
And what did I listen to, might you ask? The Harry Potter books, of course.
I was a bit skeptical of how I would like someone reading the books to me in a different tone, voice, and dialect. Turns out, Jim Dale is a perfect fit for me. He did pronounce a few things differently than I've heard before, which threw me off, but I really felt a better connection to the characters and the story. After I finished the audiobooks, I figured I'd find another book or series to try and I cringed at how the other narrators sounded. Yuck. Jim Dale needs to narrate every book. Just like Morgan Freeman should.

9. Eligible
The last book that I read of the summer was Eligible by Curtis Sittenfeld. I saw this book on the Book of the Month website and when I saw it in Target, I picked it up. It's pretty much exactly what it says it is: a modern re-telling of the classic Jane Austen novel, Pride and Prejudice. The story takes place in Cincinnati, Ohio and takes place with the same Bennet family, only modernized. It's got a bit more of a racey feel than the original, which is definitely not a bad thing. Fitzwilliam, or Darcy as he's called in the book (good call since Fitzwilliam isn't exactly a 'roll-off-the-tongue' kind of a modern name) is a successful neurosurgeon who is just as standoffish as the original. All in all, I think I'm going to say I prefer this version a bit more than Pride and Prejudice just for the easier readability (y'know less 18th century lingo). I do prefer YA books, soooooooo yeah.

Have you read any good books lately?
or any Harry Potterheads reading? Gimme a shout! We'll nerd out together!

Hope the last week of your summer is going well!
xoxo
