Hello All!
This past Christmas, Travis asked me if I would like a big present, or a smaller present.
First of all, what kind of a question is that?
Of course I'll take the big one!
He said it would combine both Christmas and my Birthday so I figured it was, y'know, pretty big.
Greece!
He wanted to take me to my dream destination!
Oh man, what did I do to deserve this fantastic guy?
-What we learned about Mykonos-
- The people are very nice (not sure if they're like that in general or just to tourists, either way, very friendly!)
- There are no addresses. At. All. Just general directions. So if you're taking a cab and you have to tell your driver where to go, he's most likely going to need a map.
- All of the streets besides main roads, are single lanes. (SINGLE LANES!) The cars just zoom around curves and up and down hills like crazy! At some points, the cars passing each other get so close, I think they're going to smack each other's mirrors off. *faints*
- You cannot rent a car unless you hold an international license. ~However~ I do believe you can rent scooters, motorbikes, or ATV's without one. (Which I wished we would've known before we went, and by the time we thought of it, we only had one night left).
- There are kitties, EVERYWHERE! So, if you're allergic, I don't recommend visiting Mykonos. They're mostly strays, but they roam the towns freely and just lazily lay around. They don't bother anyone, but the locals ask you don't feed them for obvious reasons.
- Mykonos is known as the 'Windy Island'. We were told that September is the best time to visit, as that is when there is the least amount of wind and it's sunny and 75.
We did a lot of walking, as we were kind of in the middle of the island. We were in the town of Ano Mera and it was a quaint little town with everything you needed. The closest beach was about a mile away from our villa, which didn't seem very far until we were walking back up hill 90% of the way.
We spent some time at the beach one day, it was a bit windy but still sunny and nice! The next day, my birthday, we had planned on going to the beach, but the wind was so strong that it wouldn't have been enjoyable. We weren't about to walk up and down that mile long hill again, so we opted to hang out around the villa and spend some time just soaking it all in. We made paninis and had some wine, along with the cheesecake Travis had bought the day before. It was the best birthday I've ever had.The food was good and the locals were friendly. The island is beautiful and is surrounded by heritage. Mykonos is known as a party island, and we're not the biggest partiers so we stayed closer to the country side. The last day was basically just packing up and trying to get back home.
I wished that we would've spent more time there with less wind and a mode of transportation. But, we know for out next trip!
Thank you, Travis for taking me on the dream trip we've always wanted to go on.
You are amazing and I want to travel everywhere with you.
Let me know where your dream destination is!
Have you made plans of visiting, yet? If so, what are they?
Myia
